My Story

I am, Angela Abreu, the creator of Slay Your Net Worth. My journey to finance freedom began when I was trying to dig myself out of a debt hole I created living my best life. I was 22, finishing up my Master’s degree, and expecting my first child. I found myself with almost fifty thousand dollars of debt in student loans and another ten thousand in credit cards. My credit card debt was 90% the result of flight and hotel deals I would see and book immediately without a second thought.

When I found out I was expecting, I knew I had to do better financially. I could no longer YOLO my money. I set out on a mission to become credit card debt free and save an emergency fund for my family.

In my pursuit of being credit card debt free, I learned that in my community an overwhelming number of people have subprime credit scores. I read books, took courses, became certified in credit repair, and started fixing the credit of those around me. This lead me to learn more about personal finance beyond having a favorable credit score.

Fast forward to the age of 25. I have a five figure investment portfolio. I am working towards completely retiring by the age of 45. I have two children with a combined investment portfolio over five-thousand dollars. My student loans are still weighing me down with just about forty three thousand dollars I still owe BUT I am out of credit card debt.

Discovering financial independence…

During this rocky process, is when I discovered FIRE, a movement to retire early on your own terms. When I first set out on my mission to pursue financial independence, there were moments it seemed impossible. I had to quickly learn and hone in on the “PERSONAL” aspect of this journey. My path to financial independence is different from those around me. It doesn’t mean I will not achieve it, it just means I needed to modify my methods to fit my life for NOW and LATER!
